Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has announced the launch of $5 lakh in new alumni-funded scholarships as part of its ongoing endowment campaign, which has now successfully crossed the $45 million mark. The fresh scholarships will provide crucial financial support to meritorious JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2026 aspirants as well as current students facing economic hardships.
The new scholarship programme, named “BITS Alumni Excellence Fund,” will offer need-cum-merit based aid to selected candidates securing admission through JEE scores. Eligible students from economically weaker sections will receive tuition fee waivers, hostel support, and monthly stipends. A portion of the funds will also be allocated for research grants and international exchange programmes for existing students.
BITS Pilani Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao credited the strong alumni network for the campaign’s success. “Our alumni across the globe have shown tremendous generosity, helping us build a robust endowment that ensures no deserving student is denied quality education due to financial constraints,” he said. The $45 million milestone includes contributions from thousands of alumni, many of whom are leaders in technology, entrepreneurship, and industry worldwide.
This initiative aligns with BITS Pilani’s commitment to inclusivity and excellence. Applications for the scholarships will open shortly after the JEE Advanced 2026 results. Selection will be based on entrance exam performance, family income, and academic record. The institute has also introduced a transparent online portal for scholarship applications to ensure fairness and accessibility.
Education experts have praised the move, noting that such alumni-driven endowments are becoming vital for private institutions to compete with government-funded IITs. “BITS Pilani’s endowment growth reflects the confidence of its global alumni in the institute’s future,” said higher education analyst Dr. Anjali Menon.
Current students have welcomed the announcement. Many have already benefited from earlier phases of the campaign, which supported over 1,200 students in the last academic year alone. The new $5 lakh tranche is expected to benefit at least 150 additional students annually.
BITS Pilani continues to attract top talent through its unique admission process based on JEE scores and its flexible academic structure. With this latest scholarship boost, the institute aims to further enhance diversity on campus and nurture talent from all socio-economic backgrounds.
The endowment campaign remains open, with BITS Pilani encouraging more alumni to contribute towards building a sustainable financial support system for future generations of students.
