The rankings, released on March 25, 2026, place IIT Delhi as the top‑ranked Indian institution in the broad Engineering & Technology category at 36th position globally.
Subjects in the global top 50
Among the five subjects that have broken into the world’s top 50 are Electrical Engineering (ranked 36), Mechanical Engineering (44), Computer Science (45), Chemical Engineering (48), and Civil Engineering (50). This is a sharp improvement over the previous year, when only Electrical Engineering was in the top 50, and the others were ranked lower or outside the 50–100 band.
Broader subject‑wise strength
Beyond these five, IIT Delhi now has a total of 12 subjects in the QS top 100, including Data Science & AI, Mineral & Mining, Environmental Sciences (78), Materials Science (64), Mathematics (86), Business & Management Studies (71), and Statistics & Operational Research. The institute is also listed among the world’s top 100 in the broader areas of Natural Sciences (91) and Social Sciences & Management (84).

Officials at IIT Delhi have described the rankings as validation of its focus on world‑class but affordable education that produces leaders in academia, industry, and government.
